Alumni can continue to use a variety of library services and resources.


Visiting the MSU Library

All MSU Alumni are welcome to visit the library in-person during open hours. While on-site, alumni can:

  • Peruse the library's physical collections such as Bobcat Browse
  • Use a library computer to access most (but not all) licensed subscription resources or browse the internet
  • Print or make copies (for a fee)
  • Use the scanners
  • Meet with a librarian (by appointment only)
  • Visit Archives and Special Collections (by appointment only)
  • Use a study room if available (inquire at the Library Service Desk)
  • Grab a beverage or snack from Brewed Awakening
  • Connect to the MSU-Guest Wi-Fi network

The MSU Library is committed toproviding equal access to library collections, services, and facilities for all users. Use the following resources to help plan your visit:

Borrowing Privileges

Alumni who are Montana residents can continue borrowing physical materials (excluding all technology items except headphones) from the library by obtaining an MSU Library Courtesy Borrower Card at the library's Service Desk.

Alumni are not eligible to borrow materials from other libraries or submit Interlibrary Loan requests through the MSU Library. To borrow items from other libraries, please visit your local public library.

Research Assistance

Need help locating resources for a research project? Alumni can schedule an appointment with a librarian for expert assistance in locating resources and navigating the library's offerings.

Archives and Special Collections

The MSU Library's Archives and Special Collections ensures access to valuable records of Montana State University along with designated collecting areas such as the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, regional writers, and trout and salmonids.

Access Most Licensed Electronic Resources From Library Computers

Alumni may continue to access most licensed resources, such as journals and databases, by accessing them on campus using a library computer. 

Some resources may require additional login credentials, even from within the library. Look for the lock icon on the A-Z Database page to identify resources with restricted access.
