Services We Provide

What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered by the MSU Library that can be used to borrow library materials (books, DVDs, etc.) and obtain electronic copies of articles or book chapters not owned by the MSU Library. When we borrow items from other libraries on your behalf, we are the borrowing library and the library that loans us their materials is the lending library.

You can place requests through either CatSearch from other TRAILS libraries or through ILLiad, our access to a worldwide network of libraries.

These services are available to current MSU students, staff, faculty, emeritus faculty, and affiliate users. Ifyou do not fit into one of these statuses, your local community public library can help you through their ILL services.

What is Document Delievery?

In an effort to be fiscally responsible, MSU Library Interlibrary Loan tries to avoid borrowing items that we already own, from other libraries. One of those ways is by offering a scanning service for our ILL users. The Interlibrary Loan office will scan journal articles and book chapters from MSU Library owned materials. You can place these requests through ILLiad, the same way you would request an article/book chapter from a resource we do not own.

Most frequently scanned materials live in our Offsite Library Annex, where scanning is currently done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You will receive notification emails regarding the planned scanning time and completion time.

Article Delivery Services

Get This Article Now is an article delivery service that the MSU Library has deployed to help connect current MSU students, staff, and faculty to select journal articles that the MSU Library does not subscribe to.
