Listen to the sound of steam escaping from Roaring Mountain in Yellowstone National
Park. In the 1800s, the sound could be heard from a distance of four miles. Today,
its roar competes with automobile traffic and curious tourists, but it is still one
of the park’s signature sounds. Recorded by Jeff Rice for the library’s Acoustic Atlas: acousticatlas.org.
