Located adjacent to campus, the Library Annex is an offsite storage facility that houses physical Government Documents and the majority of the library's print periodical collection. While the Annex is not open to the public, patrons can place hold requests on items located at the Annex for pickup at the library's Service Desk.

Annex Overview

The Annex spans approximately 7,304 square feet, with 3,881 square feet dedicated specifically to library materials, which are stored across 31,148 linear feet of shelving. While most periodicals are housed in the Annex, certain highly browsed call numbers, including AP, M, N-NZ, PN, TR, and TT, remain available in the basement of the MSU Library. In addition to periodicals, the Annex also houses approximately half a million government documents (excluding oversized items) and the Senator Conrad Burns Papers.

CATS employees who staff the Annex divide their time between the Annex and the MSU Library. Their key responsibilities include:

  • Pulling requests and mailing materials to the MSU Library via campus mail
  • Fulfilling interlibrary loan (ILL) or Technical Services requests
  • Managing shelving duties
  • Weeding outdated journals due to the availability of electronic access
  • Ensuring the proper order and stability of call numbers and items throughout the collection

CATS staff also oversee inventory projects and report any issues to Library Administration. As projects and staffing needs arise, additional members of the CATS Department may be assigned to assist in the Annex, ensuring smooth operations across both locations. Two CATS Department staff members split their time between the Annex and Renne on a daily basis, while student assistants may be assigned to maintenance or inventory projects. Interlibrary Loan personnel may also work in the Annex, pulling items for electronic scanning as part of ongoing services.
