MSU Library Giving Day, Feb 11, noon - Feb 12, 5 pm (b -YT cc)
Bobcats are always ready to lend a hand and now we’re here to support grizzly bears. Can you help MSU Library digitize the grizzly bear materials within the Frank Craighead Collection? Frank and his twin brother John are renowned for their groundbreaking research on grizzly bears in Yellowstone National Park. Frank’s papers, part of the library’s Archives and Special Collections, document the work in research records, manuscripts, correspondence, and photographs. Through these materials, we can see that there were some close calls as the Craigheads figured out how to tranquilize and attach radio collars to these giant creatures! Library staff are in the process of preparing the grizzly bear papers for researcher use and would like to make them easy to use by digitizing them. Over time, the library aims to digitize as many of the papers as possible – 72 boxes total! The grizzly bear materials, which are about half of the collection, will be a great start toward making the papers of these great scientists available to researchers. In the spirit of bipartisanship, this is the time for Bobcats to support grizzlies – the Craighead grizzly papers, that is! We hope we can count on your generous financial support. Giving Day runs from noon on Thursday, February 11 through 5 p.m. on Friday, February 12 and let’s gear up for Montana State.
