  • 526,073 people in and out of the building during the year
  • September was the busiest month, with 85,284 people in and out of the building during the month
  • We hit peak occupancy during fall finals week on Dec. 13, 2022 at 1 pm with 764 people using the building
  • 20,572 items were checked out – 10,083 of these loans were tech checkouts
  • Our most popular tech checkout are Dell laptops. 1,475 loans during the year
  • Users placed 2,579 holds on library materials
  • We logged 23,749 interactions with users at the library service desk
  • Librarians engaged with 1,154 users via our electronic reference service (chat, email, and SMS)
  • 327 appointments were made with librarians and other staff for in-depth research or technology assistance
  • 124 instruction sessions were held
  • 19 workshops were delivered
  • Electronic library guides were viewed 131,590 times

 

Library Serves the University and Beyond


  • The MSU Library has about 900,000 visitors annually.
  • More learning goes on in the library than in any single classroom on campus; the library is, in effect, the largest classroom or laboratory at any university.
  • The library serves the entire state as well as campus; any Montana citizen can check out books or use reference services in-person or online; it is a major interlibrary loan lender to Montana Libraries.

  • Anyone who has Internet access can search our catalog; our catalog provides user-friendly, online access around the clock.
  • Wireless access and plug-in ports are available throughout Renne Library; more than 150 computers are available in the library.
