Why Animal Events?

MSU Library is committed to supporting student success and well-being. We understand that classes, homework, and deadlines can be a lot to handle. That’s why we host animal events to help you unwind and recharge. These events give you a chance to take a fun brain break and in some cases to step outside your comfort zone by connecting with some truly unique creatures. It’s the perfect way to refresh your mind, boost your mood, and head back to your studies feeling focused and inspired — with a fun memory to take with you.

Don’t believe us? Here’s what the experts have to say.

"Participants exposed to therapy dogs during the final examination period had a better mood and affect than those who were not exposed."

Peel, N., Nguyen, K., & Tannous, C. (2023). The Impact of Campus-Based Therapy Dogs on the Mood and Affect of University Students. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 20(6), 4759

"Wakeful rest plays just as important a role as practice when learning a new skill. It appears to be the period when our brains compress and consolidate memories of what we just practiced."

Thomas, C. (2021, June 8). Study shows how taking short breaks may help our brains learn new skills. National Institutes of Health

Allergies and Fears

MSU Library is mindful of the concerns of those with allergies or fear of domestic animals. The times and location for all animal events will be publicized in advance, and there will be a clear barrier between the event and other areas of the library.
