Position overview

The Cataloging, Metadata and Processing unit of the Collection, Access and Technical Services department is primarily responsible for the creation of descriptive metadata records for both physical and digital materials to ensure that materials acquired by the Montana State University Library are discoverable in our catalog and online. Student employees assist the CMP and CATS staff with the physical processing of new materials, the repair and deselection of older materials and various collection maintenance tasks. Ours is a quiet, focused environment with some assignments taking you into the stacks

List of job responsibilities

Processes and mends all types of library materials including books, CDs, DVDs, and musical scores. Inventories and retrieves items from the stacks, checks in government documents, performs various cataloging tasks in Alma (Integrated Library System) and other duties as assigned.

List of required qualifications

Detail oriented, computer proficient, strong data entry and fine motor skills, familiar with Microsoft Excel and an ability to work collaboratively and load/push/unload fully loaded book trucks and reach 7' shelves (with library stool). Prior library experience desired but not required.
