...locating journal articles and papers:

printASCE annual combined index (American Society of Civil Engineers) 1982 to present. This indexes the ASCE's publications. You can find it on the fourth floor of the library at call number TA1.A58A52.

CD-ROMBeilstein via the CrossFire system: CrossFire is an information system in the chemical sciences; it provides access to the the Beilstein and Gmelin Databases. This information system is the world´s largest chemical facts database. It includes structures, physical properties, reactions and literature quotations covering over 7 million organic and approximately 1 million inorganic and organometallic compounds. Beilstein is available in the Reference Area of the library on the Local Area Network (16 computers); ask at the Reference Desk for documentation for searching Beilstein. Beilstein is also available on computers in the Chemistry Department and the Chemical Engineering Department.
Visit this link for For Beilstein Structure Searching Tips, Tricks and Shortcuts.
Visit this link for Reaction Searching Tips (includes atom mapping, bond make/break, and combining structural reaction search with factual reagent search).

printChemical Abstracts: Produced by the American Chemical Society, this weekly publication provides abstracts of all scientific and technical papers containing new information of chemical or chemical engineering interest. It also reports new chemical information revealed in the patent literature. Coverage is international. Access Chemical Abstracts in print format in the Reference stacks on the first floor of Renne Library. (Ref QD1.A51 1967 - 1997; 1907 - 1966 on third floor at QD1.A51). Chemistry and Chemical Engineering students and faculty may schedule a commercial online assisted search with a librarian to search Chemical Abstracts from January 1998 to present (Ask at Reference).

networked Computer Database (1995- ) is a bibliographic and full-text database covering computer-related product introductions, news, and reviews in areas such as hardware, software, electronics, engineering, communications and the application of technology. See also the list of titles included in the Computer Database.

networked Computing Research Repository (CoRR): Through a partnership of ACM, the Los Alamos e-Print archive, and NCSTRL (Networked Computer Science Technical Reference Library), an online Computing Research Repository (CoRR) is being established. The Repository has been integrated into the collection of over 20,000 computer science research reports and other material available through NCSTRL and will be linked with the ACM Digital Library. Most importantly, the Repository will be available to all members of the community at no charge. For more details, see the CoRR Introduction Page. This page provides information on how to submit documents, browse, search, and subscribe to get notification of new articles of interest.

networkedEi Compendex (1990- ) is an interdisciplinary engineering index, with over three million citations to journal articles, technical reports, and conference papers. For pre-1990 citations see Engineering Index, Z5851.E62 in the Reference Area on the first floor of Renne Library.

networkedHCI Bibliography is a free-access online bibliographic database on Human-Computer Interaction. The basic goal of the Project is to put an electronic bibliography for most of HCI on the screens of all researchers, developers, educators and students in the field through the World-Wide Web and anonymous ftp access.

CD-ROMIndex to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP): published by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), indexes published proceedings of scientific meetings. Frequency is monthly, with annual cumulations. Coverage is international. The latest 5 years of ISTP is available on CD-ROM on a computer station in the Reference Area. Older print editions are in the Reference stacks. (Ref Z7403 I416)

printInternational abstracts in operations research, by the International Federation of Operational Research Societies. Available in Reference at Ref Q500.I5 from 1968 to present.

networkedMEDLINE: is the premier health sciences periodical index from the National Library of Medicine (NLM). Free MEDLINE searching is available through the NLM website, using either the PubMed or Internet Grateful Med interface.

networkedPapersFirst (1993- ) is a bibliographic index to conference papers.

printScience Citation Index (SCI) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI): published by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), SCI and SSCI are useful for tracing influential literature in the sciences. These complex multivolume sets enable you to search by author, citation, term, and by geographic location or organization. So, for instance, you can see which authors have subsequently cited an earlier work (published, say, in 1966) by searching for the name of the author of the earlier work in post-1966 citation volumes. For more information about citation searching, look at the Citation Indexes page, or refer to ISI's Citation Index Information Web page. Earlier volumes of SCI and SSCI are accessible in print in the Reference stacks. (SCI = Ref Z7401.S365; SSCI = Ref Z7161.S65); Years 1995 - 1997 are on index tables near the Reference Desk. From January 1998 to present, you can search SCI and SSCI on CD-Rom on a stand alone computer in the Reference area.

networkedUnCover: UnCover is an article access and delivery system; the UnCover database allows you to search the tables of contents of almost 17,000 journals. It contains information for more than 5,500,000 articles from 1989 to as recent as this week's issue, which can be searched using either basic or complex search commands.
