Where to start when doing your research?  The Library homepage:  http://www.lib.montana.edu

Finding books and DVDs/Videos:  search the Library Catalog to find books or films on your topics.

Possible search terms for finding books and more in the library catalog:

Art in education                                Art study and teaching                     Visual learning

Activity programs in education       Creative ability in children              Group work in art

*or experiment with any terms or topics that come to mind as keyword searches

Finding articles, book reviews, lesson plans and more:

From the Library homepage, click on “Articles (Indexes & Databases)” and try any of the “Best bets” interdisciplinary databases.

OR go straight to the link for EDUCATION databases and try the ERIC database, a huge, international database for doing research in educationSearch ERIC to find sample lesson plans, case studies, research articles and reports, as well as brief articles (ERIC Digests) that will give you the background and a good summary of a topic that you’d like to know more about.  And more!

Use PsycInfo for finding articles, case studies, etc., on any topic related to behavioral science or educational psychology.

Researching Education Law?  Use the LexisNexis database for state and federal laws and cases.

Follow the link to ART databases and try the Artstor database for finding art images and reproductions, or try Art Abstracts for finding articles about artists and their work, etc.

See the BOOKS & BOOK REVIEWS and REFERENCE categories of databases for other useful resources.

Determining if the library subscribes to a particular magazine or journal:

Search the JournaList database to determine if the library subscribes to a particular magazine, journal or newspaper.  Don’t use the JournaList to find specific articles on specific topics; go to the Articles (Indexes & Databases) page and search any of the above databases, such as ERIC, etc.

Logging in to the Library’s subscription databases from off campus:

You’ll need your MSU ID number and a Library Password to login remotely to search the above databases, access Ejournals, place interlibrary loan requests or to view/renew the books you have checked out.  Go here to change or select your library password:  http://www.lib.montana.edu/passwords/

Ordering copies of journal articles, books, or films from other libraries:  if we don’t own an item you need, we’ll borrow it from another library at no charge to you.  Go here to request items from other libraries OR to request an item from the Renne Library while you’re out in the field student teaching somewhere outside of Bozeman:  https://www.lib.montana.edu/forms/ill.php

You’re still an MSU student while student teaching, so we’ll send you books, films, etc., wherever you are!
