MSU-Bozeman Library Online Catalog (CatTrac): Library computers or telnet
To locate additional indexes, journals, books, and other resources held in Renne Library, search the online catalog, CatTrac. At the : prompt, type hello link.library. To quit, type EXIT. For help using the remote access version of CatTrac (called Catlink), read our brief MSU-Bozeman Catalog guide. Access the Catlink version of CatTrac by activating the link above; from the Renne Library Homepage; from your TREX account (see instructions for accessing indexes such as GSA and SSI above; but select Catlink instead of Catlink2); or from terminals located throughout the library.
LaserCat: Ref CD-ROM station
A CD-ROM index to books, journals, and other materials held in libraries in the Pacific Northwest. This database is produced by the Western Library Network (WLN) and contains over 4 million records. Use LaserCat to identify and locate materials not held in the MSU Libraries. Accessible from a computer station in the Reference area of Renne Library. For assistance, see a librarian at the Reference Desk.
Other Library Catalogs: Internet stations
Hundreds of librarys (US and foreign) have made their catalogs accessible via the Internet. To see an index of these, try HYTELNET. Selected libraries with holdings of note for historians include:
- Harvard University
- Library of Congress
- MELVYL (University of California system): When asked for terminal, type VT100. To exit, type end.
- Stanford University: At the Account? prompt type socrates. At the Type of terminal? prompt, type VT100. To exit, type end. You can mail citations to your e-mail account from this catalog.
- University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana: Enter lcs at the login prompt. To exit, type exit.
- University of Iowa: Enter a terminal type of V1. Choose option 1 on the menu, OASIS. Choose LCAT on the Database selection menu. Choose LIBCATS if you want to explore the library catalogs of other Big 10 universities. When you want to return to the University of Iowa catalog from another "libcat", type start. To exit, type stop.
