In accordance with licensing agreements for online resources, only current Montana State University faculty, staff, students, and non-employees appointed by the Provost's office are eligible for some library services. Community and non-MSU affiliates will not be able to access electronic resources from off campus locations, but anyone can access the majority of electronic resources by using a computer in the library.  


Current MSU Bozeman Faculty, Staff, & Students

MSU Bozeman staff, faculty, and students enrolled in the current term have access to MSU Library electronic resources and will use NetID credentials when prompted to log in to the library.

Alumni

The MSU Library recognizes that many MSU graduates would like to continue to use the library’s resources and services after their student privileges expire upon graduation. MSU Alumni retain remote online access to select licensed resources as well as many other services and resources offered by the MSU Library.Alumni may use licensed online resources that aren't available to them remotely by accessing them on campus using a library computer. However, there are select resources that require login credentials, even from on campus, and they are specified with a lock-icon on the A-Z Database page

Community Members & Non-MSU Affiliates

Emeritus Faculty

Emeritus faculty will retain privileges to access MSU Library online resources remotely. However, a request for approval of a non-employee appointment must be submitted and approved by the Provost to obtain access.

  • Send the completed form to the department that is initiating the non-employee appointment (not the library).
  • The sponsoring department will collect all required signatures, and the form will be routed to Human Resources (HR) for final approval.Upon approval, HR will send a confirmation email to the initiating department with a copy of the approved form.
  • To ensure uninterrupted access to library resources, this appointment must be renewed yearly.
  • Approved appointments will have off campus access to all of the library's online resources. 
  • Anyone not appointed in accordance with this policy, will not be granted access to the library's resources.

Non-Employee Appointments  

Sometimes departments at MSU will grant appointments to non-MSU employees. In order for these individuals to obtain access to the library's online resources, a request for approval of a non-employee appointment must be submitted and approved by the Provost.

  • Send the completed form to the department that is initiating the non-employee appointment (not the library).
  • The sponsoring department will collect all required signatures, and the form will be routed to Human Resources (HR) for final approval.Upon approval, HR will generate a NetID for the non-employee and send a confirmation email to the initiating department with a copy of the approved form. 
  • To ensure uninterrupted access to library resources, this appointment must be renewed yearly.
  • Approved appointments will have off campus access to all of the library's online resources.
  • Anyone not appointed in accordance with this policy, will not be granted access to the library's resources.

Special Circumstances

Those belonging to an academic program, department, or major (e.g., MSMME, Fish, Wildlife, and Parks,) that does NOT use NetIDs, please complete the MSU Library Account Application Form.
