Connect to ERIC

What is it? The ERIC Database is a bibliographic and abstracts database covering the field of education. It includes citations and abstracts to educational journal articles (from the Current Index to Journals in Education [CIJE]) and educational documents (from the Research in Education [RIE]. Many of the educational documents are available online with older ones available in the basement microform room by their ED number. ERIC is also available directly on the Web at eric.ed.gov version but without any information about MSU Bozeman journal holdings. Updated monthly.

Why use it? Education articles and resources

Coverage: 1966-Present

Access: FirstSearch ERIC is available on networked computers on the MSU campus in Bozeman and via the proxy server. The eric.ed.gov version is freely available from everywhere on the Internet, but it does not have the local MSU Bozeman library holdings information. Unlimited users.

Learn more: Title List for journals in the Current Index to Journals in Education portion.

ERIC Journal Article Access: For records with an EJ number, look for the Check MSU Availability icon available in the full record. Clicking that icon may retrieve the full text of the article online. If not, it should give links to online versions or the publication, direct search links for that journal in the library catalog, and links to interlibrary loan.

ERIC Documents Access: For records with an ED number, do NOT click on the Check MSU Availability icon. Instead, look for the FullText link on both the brief display and under Access ERIC: on the full display. These ERIC documents should be freely available online from 1988 to the present if they are Level 1 availability. Level 2 and 3 are not available online. The MSU Bozeman library does have all ED numbers Level 1 and Level 2 up through 2001 (ED455358) on microfiche in the MICRO/AV room in the basement. The oldest (ED002202 - ED199999) are in storage and must be requested from MICRO/AV staff.
