Creator: United States Government Printing Office

Provenance Note: Recruiting pamphlets, war rationing coupons, press releases, and other ephemera issued by the United States Government Printing Office during World War II were deposited in the Montana State College Library from 1941 through 1945.  They were transferred to the Special Collections department in 1972.

Historical Note: During World War II the United States issued numerous instruction packets for media outlets to explain the necessity and proper use of food and gasoline rationing coupons and to encourage citizen conservation of materials necessary for the war effort.  At the same time, the Government Printing Office produced many recruiting brochures to encourage enlistment in all branches of service, including the active solicitation of women recruits. Other materials issued by the GPO included war propaganda.  Much of this material was discarded at war’s end.

Content Description Note:  The collection includes a variety of recruiting pamphlets, war rationing coupons, press releases, propaganda and other ephemera issued by the United States Government Printing Office during World War II.  Many of the materials, including the rationing coupons, are in unused, pristine condition and suitable for display.
