Executive Summary of Administrative Goals

Mission Statement: The Libraries mission is to facilitate student and faculty success by providing access to information and knowledge.

I. The Library as Information Service and Programs

The Libraries will:

  • provide an environment that is welcoming to students, faculty, staff, and others;
  • develop innovative use of electronic information technologies to provide convenient and timely access to information and knowledge sources in all formats worldwide;
  • acquire information resources that support the teaching, research, and outreach missions of the university;
  • organize, manage, and provide bibliographic control of information resources;
  • provide access to information resources as appropriate based on client needs;
  • preserve resident collections as appropriate based on client needs;
  • develop and maintain educational programs leading to greater student self-sufficiency and lifelong learning skills;
  • recruit and manage the human resources; acquire and manage space and physical resources effectively and efficiently.

II. The Library as Place

The Libraries will:

  • plan for future space needs;
  • make appropriate use of advanced information technologies, equipment, and facilities; improve access to information and improve work flow efficiency and effectiveness;
  • provide flexible, accessible space sufficient for staff, clients, planned growth in collections, and electronic services;
  • provide a secure and healthy environment for clients, staff, collections, and equipment.

III. The Library as People

The Libraries will:

  • have administrative leadership that will provide vision and foster teamwork and innovation;
  • recognize staff as a crucial resource by valuing their participation, respecting their contributions, and ensuring fair and humane management practices;
  • continue to develop and recruit a staff of the highest quality and adaptability and to support their growth and potential;
  • use clear, consistent, and effective lines of communication among staff.

IV. The Library as Partner

The Libraries will:

  • work in partnership with faculty, students, and staff to achieve the university's teaching, research and service goals;
  • strengthen the academic role of The Libraries;
  • heighten the profile of The Libraries;
  • explore avenues for fundraising of benefit to The Libraries;
  • take a leadership role in inter-institutional cooperation toward the sharing of resources.

V. The Library as Organization

The Libraries will:

  • assure accountability to the Regents, Legislature, university administration, faculty, students, and library staff;
  • assure administrative and management documentation
